Richmond Landfill
Nominal Size of Truck or Bin

Many of our prices are based on the nominal internal volume of the container or truck. Volumes are on a "level full" basis, as if the truck or container was level full with water. The following procedure is used to determine nominal size.

For certain materials (e.g. Clean Green®), the scale operator will estimate the actual quantity of material to the nearest cubic yard. For all other materials, the charge is based on the nominal size, whether or not the container, bin, or truck is full.

For excavation material (soil), the following nominal sizes are used:

Configuration Nominal Size
Tandem axle dump truck 16 cubic yards
Truck with pup 28 cubic yards
Truck with transfer trailer 32 cubic yards

It is recognized that the actual volume of soil which may be carried in each of the above configurations may be less than the nominal size.

If the load is significantly larger than "level full", a larger nominal size may be used at the sole discretion of Ecowaste. If the load is over weight, Ecowaste reserves the right to reject the load or to charge a higher rate.
