Ecowaste Industries, formerly Richmond Landfill Ltd., has over 30 years of waste management experience. From 1971 until 1986, Ecowaste operated a municipal solid waste landfill in the City of Richmond on 160 hectares of land owned by the Fraser River Harbour Commission ("FRHC"). As the land of the FRHC became filled, Ecowaste purchased 160 hectares of land next to the FRHC site where the Company currently operates a landfill for construction, demolition and excavation materials.
In 1992, Ecowaste opened a windrow compost facility on this site for yard waste. Starting in 1993, and for a period of approximately 2 years, Ecowaste composted "fines" from a dry material recycling facility. In 1994, composting of biosolids began.
In 1998, facilities for soil bioremediation were established.
Delta Topsoil, initially operated as Delta Topsoil Ltd. and later as a division of Ecowaste, was established in 1992 through the purchase of an ongoing topsoil business. Delta Topsoil provided topsoil and other soil materials to public and private sector customers including landscapers, gardeners, nurseries, wholesale accounts (bagging), golf courses and the general public. Delta Topsoil is the primary consumer of yard waste compost produced by Ecowaste. Effective August 1, 1999, Delta Topsoil is owned and operated by E. Mathers Bulldozing.
Ecowaste is a wholly owned subsidiary of Graymont Limited.
