Note: the terms "refuse" and "waste" are sometimes used interchangeably in approvals, permits, licences and Operational Certificates.
Agricultural Quality Soil means soil which has been relocated from a contaminated site, and which contains no substances with concentrations exceeding the applicable numerical soil standards for agricultural land. (Operational Certificate MR-04922)
Brush & Land Clearing Debris means trees, stumps and associated vegetation and soil resulting primarily from land clearing. (Ecowaste definition)
Clean Fill means inorganic and organic soils, containing only small sized rocks and pieces of concrete or black top, such that the material is suitable for final cover. Wood or plastic are not permitted in Clean Fill. (Ecowaste definition)
Clean Soil means soil which has been relocated from a site which is not a contaminated site, and which contains no substances with concentrations exceeding the applicable numerical soil standards for agricultural land. (Operational Certificate MR-04922)
Construction waste means solid waste resulting from or produced by the construction of buildings, parking lots, bridges, roads, sidewalks, pipes or other man made structures acceptable to the Regional Waste Manager. (BC Ministry of Water, Land and Air Protection definition)
Demolition waste means solid waste resulting from or produced by the complete or partial destruction or tearing down of buildings, parking lots, bridges, roads, sidewalks or other man made structures acceptable to the Regional Waste Manager. Demolition waste does not include other wastes or materials that are contained within the structure that is demolished. (BC Ministry of Water, Land and Air Protection definition)
Excavation waste means solid waste resulting from or produced by the excavation or digging out of building foundations, bridge footings, pipes or other man made structures acceptable to the Regional Waste Manager. (BC Ministry of Water, Land and Air Protection definition)
Fire Damaged means refuse from a structure damaged by fire. (Ecowaste definition)
Industrial Quality Soil means soil which has been relocated from any site, contains one or more substances with concentrations exceeding the applicable numerical soil standards for agricultural land, but contains no substances with concentrations exceeding the applicable numerical soil standards for industrial land. (Operational Certificate MR-04922)
Reloads means construction or similar refuse which has been stockpiled and reloaded into another truck or container. During the stockpiling or reloading, the material is broken or crushed so as to occupy a smaller volume. (Ecowaste definition)
Residential Quality Soil means soil which has been relocated from a contaminated site, and which contains no substances with concentrations exceeding the applicable numerical soil standards for residential land. (Ecowaste definition)
Rubble means Clean Fill which contains larger rocks and/or pieces of concrete and brick without limitation as to quantity or size, together with small amounts of black top and incidental amounts of non-treated wood or plastic. (Ecowaste definition)
Special Waste Soil means soil which has been relocated from a contaminated site, and is classified as special waste. (Operational Certificate MR-04922)
Treated Lumber means wood that has been chemically treated with preservatives including creosote. (Ecowaste definition)
Waste Soil means soil which has been relocated from a contaminated site, contains one or more substances with concentrations exceeding the applicable numerical soil standards for industrial land, and is not classified as special waste. (Operational Certificate MR-04922)
