Biosolids Composting

In the fall of 1994, Ecowaste was awarded a contract by the Greater Vancouver Regional District (“GVRD”) for a pilot program to compost approximately 10,000 t of biosolids from the Annacis Island Wastewater Treatment Plant. The biosolids for this project are primary, anaerobically digested, municipal sewage sludge that has been mechanically dewatered using centrifuges and stockpiled. The biosolids were co-composted with primarily yard waste at the Richmond Landfill. The finished compost was screened and put to beneficial use by the GVRD on a number of projects. Final material was removed from the Richmond Landfill during 1999. For additional information, contact the GVRD.
